The Cool 21’s is a group of teens and adults with Down syndrome who meet two times a month to improve on their social awareness skills or explore their community. Their meetings are held at the DSOSN office the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month at 6:00 PM.
The Cool 21’s have been meeting since January 2011 and have had many great experiences together. They have seen shows, plays, movies, dance outings and much more.. They have created their own Facebook accounts to better keep in touch with each other. They hold many fundraisers throughout the year to help with the funds needed for their adventures and to help in contributing to DSOSN in general. They also participate in various community volunteer activities throughout the year. Many of them are also active with Special Olympics, Best Buddies and Opportunity Village.
They actively participate in the Buddy Walk and the Festival of Trees & Lights and volunteer at the DSOSN office on a regular basis. The past four years they raised money to attend the Down Syndrome Conference in Washington, D.C. in 2012: in Denver in 2013; in Indianapolis in 2014 and in Phoenix in 2015. They are now preparing to go the 2016 conference in Orlando, Florida.
Needless to say, the Cool 21’s are a busy bunch and continually growing! They are exploring their community and world, and learning to be productive people in the world. If you see a membe
The Cool 21’s make sure you say HI, they would love to tell you what they are up too now!
