DSOSN Learning Program
The Las Vegas Learning Program is designed to supplement traditional education and strengthen the academic potential of children with Down syndrome. The program focuses on the specific cognitive profile of children with Down syndrome to further enhance their learning opportunity. This model emphasizes parents as first-teachers for their children, bringing the results of research into practice, as well as training parents to serve as capable advocates for their children in the educational process. The Learning Program aims to provide children; skilled activities with a teacher, occupational therapist and speech-language pathologist to enhance the development of literacy, math, language and fine motor skills along with simultaneous training for the parents. To ensure optimal carryover, parents receive materials to work with their children at home or at school. Our program meets once a month throughout the school year to provide these services to members of the Down Syndrome Organization of Southern Nevada.
